Where does your linen come from?

The linen is woven with great craftsmanship in our founder’s hometown in the Czech Republic. The textile flax industry existed in Canada, and in Quebec, but unfortunately gradually died out with the textile revolution in the 70s. To learn more, we wrote an article on the subject.

MLKO linen is grown and weaved in Europe, and then travels directly to my small studio.

Where are your products made ?

Every MLKO product is designed and sewn in the studio, a small space where big dreams can become reality. We are located in La Présentation, Québec.

Do you have any storefronts where I can try on clothes?

You are always welcome to visit us and see our products right here at the studio, by appointment only. We are located in La Presentation (near Saint-Hyacinthe) in the Montérégie region of Quebec. Book your appointment here.

You can also come and see us at one of our events.

Why are some items in stock, while others are made to order?

Having a large inventory is not an option for a small business like ours. We strive to offer a variety of products to suit all your linen needs, and this means that we choose to make less of each. To use our resources responsibly, we keep a small inventory of popular home textiles, but for now all clothing is made to order, meaning that yes, you will have to wait for it... This also means you can customize certain elements of your piece, such as the length or width of a hem, neckline curve, etc.

We want you to cherish your MLKO linen for a long time, and as they say, what is worth doing, is worth doing well...

Are your products compostable ?

Linen fabric comes from the flax plant, and does not contain any added material. It is therefore a biodegradable product (as opposed to compostable, which involves a controlled process) and will not leave traces in nature. Ancient linen has been found in sealed caves and sarcophaguses, but left in nature, it will biodegrade within months.

How to take care of our linen ?

Linen will last forever, if cared for properly! The label on your product isn’t only there to remind you where it’s from! All washing and drying instructions are on the label, and you can visit our website for more detailed information, as well as tips and tricks to get the most use out of your linen.

Visit Linen care for more info!

  • Linen has natural antibacterial properties and doesn’t absorb odours. You’ll notice you don’t need to wash linen as often as you would other fabrics!
  • Less washing means less water down the drain! Simply air your linen or hang near a drafty window between washings.
  • On laundry day, unfold any items that are bunched up and make sure not to overcrowd the washer.
  • Wash in cold or warm water, depending on the type of laundry soap you use (I use Marseille soap that I have diluted, and it works best in warm water)
  • Air dry your linen for best results. Quick tip: the sun is an amazing fabric whitener and stain remover!
  • If you must use the dryer, remove your linen while it is still damp. That way you can smooth out any creases with your hands, and thus avoid the need for ironing!
  • You can iron linen at high temperatures, when needed.

Why linen ?

Where do we start ! Linen has been used for millennia (linen fibre was found in a cave and was dated to be 36 000 years old...) and is the oldest textile used by humankind. Derived from the flax plant, it is not only natural, but is a crop that regenerates the soil, needs no additional irrigation other than rain water, and very little or no weed control.

Here are some of linen’s amazing properties:

  • Its capacity to absorb water
  • Its breathability
  • Its antibacterial properties
  • Its durability
  • Neither hot nor cold, linen naturally regulates your body temperature
  • Linen gets softer with use
  • Linen’s timeless beauty transcends any fashion fads...
  • Its environmentally friendly life cycle
